Boston, Mass. – Clark University sophomore ace Cal Slepkow (Rehoboth, Mass.) has been named the 2017 New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-Conference it was announced on Monday by the league office.

The award for Slepkow comes on the heels of a stellar second-year campaign on the mound for the Cougars, who made their first postseason appearance since the 2010 season and is the first major conference award for Clark since 2012 when Diego Angel was named Men's Tennis Player of the Year.

Slepkow went 6-1 with a 2.70 ERA while tossing a league-best 66.2 innings, striking out 52 batters and walking just 13.

He had seven starts this season where he went seven innings or more and twirled a pair of complete games as the Scarlet and White won a school-record 26 games.

Slepkow's best performance of the year might have come against West Division rival WPI, where he went the distance, shutting out the league's best hitting team and holding them to just four hits in a complete game shutout.

In addition to that showing, he struck out a career-high ten batters in eight innings of work in a no-decision against Emerson and also had eight strikeouts in eight innings in a win over Coast Guard.

Slepkow's six wins this season equaled the second-most in a single season in school history and his ten victories in his first two seasons have him on pace to break the school's career wins mark (14) at some point next season.

So far in his career, Slepkow is 10-2 overall with a 3.06 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 123.1 innings pitched.
