Cougars Stunned By Lasell In Final Seconds

Worcester, Mass. - Visiting Lasell College scored seven goals in the final 10:57, including the game's last three tallies to erase a 4-0 fourth quarter deficit and stun host Clark, 7-6 in Pilgrim League men's lacrosse action Saturday evening on Granger Field.

Sam Wilcox scored the game-winning goal with three seconds remaining in regulation to cap the improbable rally that snapped the Cougars four game win streak and halt the Lasers' six game slide.

With the win, Lasell improves to 2-8 overall and 1-2 in league play, while Clark slips to 4-4 and 1-1 in conference action.

Chris Johnson (Amherst, Mass.) got the Cougars on the board with an unassisted marker just 4:30 into the contest.

The scoreboard stayed 1-0 in favor of the Clark until Shawn Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) found the back of the net in towards the end of the third period, upping the Cougar advantage to 2-0.

After an unnecessary roughness call was made on Clark with one second left on the clock in the third period, the Cougars got back-to-back man-down goals ten seconds apart in the fourth quarter from Sam McAdam (Portland, Maine) and Garrett McAdam (Portland, Maine), giving the Scarlet and White a 4-0 edge.

Less than four minutes later the Lasers finally got on the board as Brian Yepez set up Jon Elia.

Any Puopolo then found the back of the net less than a minute later and the Cougars' lead was sliced in half at 4-2.

Phil Winslow (Providence, R.I.) seemed to restore order for Clark with his unassisted score, but that was immediately followed by another Elia goal.

Chris Bulkley then scored with less than four minutes to go, making the game 5-4, but excellent ball movement led to Clark's next goal. Johnson stepped on the field and took a pass from Andrew DeVito (Glastonbury, Conn.) and raced up the seam finding Garrett McAdam in front of the net for his second goal of the game.

The Cougars, however, were called for an unsportsmanlike penalty following McAdam's score, which led to a Bulkley score and the game's equalizer moments after both team's returned to even strength by Puopolo.

Lasell controlled the faceoffs all game long, winning 15-of-17, including 11-of-12 in the decisive fourth quarter.

DeVito made 11 saves for Clark, while Laser netminder Eric Walsh turned back eight shots for the victors.

The Cougars return to the field on Wednesday when they host Emerson, while the Lasers visit Plymouth State on the same day.
