Cougars Drop 13-7 Decision To Farmingdale State

Farmingdale, N.Y. - The Farmingdale State men's lacrosse team improved to 3-1 on the season with a 13-7 non-conference victory over visiting Clark University (0-2) on Saturday afternoon at Rams Field.

Battling heavy rains and 50 mph wind gusts, the Rams jumped out to an 8-3 lead at halftime, with three goals each from sophomore attack Erick Thomson and junior attack Rob Nosworthy. Senior attack Sean Maxwell had two first half goals.

Clark sophomore attack Phil Winslow (North Providence, R.I.) and senior midfielder Chris Adams (Bradford, N.H.) each had a goal and an assist, while graduate attack Shawn Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) scored for the Cougars with 1:21 left in the second period.

Farmingdale State scored the first two goals of the third period to open up a 10-3 advantage.

Clark would answer with goals from Chris Johnson (Amherst, Mass.), Garrett McAdam (Portland, Maine) and back-to back scores by Roche, cutting the deficit to 10-6 through three periods.

The Rams added three fourth period goals, putting the game out of reach for Clark.

Thomson finished with a game-high six goals and Nosworthy had three goals and six ground balls for Farmingdale State. Sophomore midfielder Joe Nacarlo was 17-for-22 on faceoffs and had 13 ground balls.

The Cougars were led by Roche who scored a team-high three goals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Delventhal played the first half and had three saves, while freshman Sean Martin was in net in the second half and recorded six saves for the Rams. Sophomore goalie Andrew DeVito (Glastonbury, Conn.) had eight saves in the loss for Clark.

The Cougars will look for the first win of the Jeff Cohen era when they visit Curry College on Wednesday beginning at 4:00 p.m.
