Sawyer Records Shutout, as Field Hockey Sails to Victory

THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Clark University field hockey team shutout the Elm's college Blazers at home, 2-0. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Eight minutes into the first quarter, the Cougars scored their first goal after Senior Mikayla Pantano (East Bridgewater, Mass.) finished a beautiful pass from the right side by senior Julia D'Antonio (Ramsey, N.J.) for her second goal of the season (1-0). 

-In the second quarter, Elms attempted to capitalize on a fast break when sophomore Ellie Serra (Palmer, Mass.) beat the last Clark defender to take on sophomore keeper, Grace Sawyer (Windham, Maine) one on one. Sawyer came up with the big stop to preserve the shutout.

-Clark scored their second goal of the game with three minutes remaining in regulation when freshman Abigail Cravinho (Bellow Falls, Vt.) finished a cross from classmate Kerry Lefebvere (Freeport, Maine.) after she cut around Elm's sophomore goalkeeper, Nora Newman (2-0).

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-The Cougars outshot the Blazers by a margin of 20 to 5.

-Sawyer shutout the Blazers, making four saves on the day for her second shutout of the season.

-Clark was awarded three penalty corners while Nichols was awarded one.

-Clark hits the road on Thursday, September 19th when they visit Johnson &Wales for a non-conference matchup at 5 PM. 

-Elms is back on the road Saturday, September 21th when they face up against the Pride of Springfield College for a non-conference game at 12 PM.
