Women's Soccer Welcomes McElroy-Howard and Kahan to Coaching Staff in 2018

Worcester, Mass.—The Clark University women's soccer team welcomes Grace McElroy-Howard and Sydney Kahan to the coaching staff for the Fall of 2018. McElroy-Howard joins the staff as the recruiting coordinator while Kahan will serve as the goalkeepers coach.

McElroy-Howard, a 2018 graduate of Clark, was a four year member of the women's soccer program. She was named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Sportsmanship Team as a senior and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Screen Studies.

While at Clark McElroy-Howard worked with the Mass Youth Soccer Association as a GOALS Program Coach in Boston, Mass. In this role she coordinated and supervised soccer drills and activities for numerous summer camp groups in the greater Boston area.

On top of her four year soccer career McElroy-Howard also stayed involved in service trips and volunteering. She volunteered at the Jeremiah's Inn Food Pantry in Worcester, Mass. and at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brookline, Mass. She went on week-long service trips to rural villages in Honduras (2012) and the Dominican Republic (2016).

"I am honored and privileged to join such an amazing staff of intelligent and strong women. Being a part of this team has taught me and given me more than I ever thought it would. I'm buzzing to get the season started!" said McElroy-Howard.

Kahan is a 2012 graduate of Wesley College and was a four year-year letter winner in soccer for the Division III Wolverines. She started all four years in net and holds one of the lowest goals against average in program history. She was named captain of the team as a senior and graduated with a degree in exercise science in 2014.  Kahan also played semi-professional soccer for the Rhode Island Reds FC in the WPSL for two seasons.

"I'm very excited to join the staff and have already enjoyed and learned a lot from working beside [head coach] Brie Smith. We have a strong group of girls who are hardworking on and off the field and I'm looking forward to a competitive season with them all. They bring a lot of positive energy to every practice and games and support each other which as a coach is fantastic to see. I'm excited to work with the three keepers on the squad and look forward to watching them each improve technically and tactically throughout the season," said Kahan.

While coaching at Clark Kahan is also a member of the New England Revolution Academy staff. She has been on the staff for the past three years and has held multiple roles within the organization, most recently being the director of coaching for Lincoln Youth Soccer. She is also part of the Rhode Island ODP coaching staff. Before moving back home to Rhode Island, Kahan served as an assistant coach for the girls' varsity team at Polytech high school in Delaware for three seasons and helped lead the team to a conference championship in 2013.

The women's soccer team kicks off their season on Friday, August 31st at Framingham State College, taking on the Rams at 6:30 p.m.
