Orzechowski Named Honorable Mention Scholar All-America

Worcester, Mass. - Freshman sensation Melissa Orzechowski (Windsor, Conn.) has been named Honorable Mention Scholar All-America by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Executive Director Joel Shinofield.

In order to be selected, swimmers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for the semester, or cumulative average, and have achieved a "B" time standard but did not qualify or compete in their respective national championship.

Orzechowski had a stellar first season in the pool for the Cougars, finishing fifth in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), posting a time of 17:33.41 – a time that missed out on the school record by a little more than a second but met the NCAA "B" Cut Qualifying time.

She also set two individual school records – in the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyles – and was part of the school record setting 800-yard freestyle relay team.

Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America is the oldest professional organization of college coaches in America.
