-The Lead: The Clark University volleyball team was defeated by the Hawks of Roger Williams University in three sets on Saturday afternoon by set scores of 25-14, 25-22, and 25-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-To start the first set both teams traded points early on, with neither side leading by more than three. However, RWU pulled away from Clark with a 7-1 run to turn a 7-6 lead into a 14-7 advantage. The Hawks would eventually take the set by a 25-14 margin.
-Clark scored the first four points of the second set and eventually go up 6-1. With the Cougars leading 10-5, RWU called a timeout to regroup and came out with five straight points to tie things up at ten. Later with the score knotted at 16, RWU scored four straight points then closed the set out with three of the final four points to win 25-22.
-RWU pulled away early in the third set and never looked back. The Hawks utilized an 11-1 run with the score tied at three to take a commanding 14-4 lead. RWU went up by as many as 13 and took the set and the match with a 25-12 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Nicki Fallisi (Salem, N.H.) and Maddie (Remsenburg, N.Y.) led RWU with 11 kills each with Neuberger adding four blocks (1 solo, 3 assist). Julia Fields (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) had 32 assists, with Jaime Gaffga (Mattituck, N.Y.) leading RWU with 12 digs.
-Clark travels down the road to WPI on Tuesday, October 23rd for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) at 7:00 p.m.
-Roger Williams heads to Salve Regina on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
