-The Lead: The Cougars could not get by Susquehanna in the first match of the season, falling in three straight sets despite a close second set. In the second match, Clark competed well but fell in five sets. They were handed their second loss of the season in last nights back to back.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Susquehanna came out firing, scoring the first four points in the opening set. Susquehanna used their early momentum to hold the lead from start to finish, claiming the first set 25-8. In the second set, Clark battled despite their first set loss. The score was back and forth from the get-go, resulting in 13 ties and numerous lead changes throughout the set. Susquehanna came out on top in the end, winning 25-23. In the final set of the match, Clark took an early 6-2 lead but could not hold onto it as Susquehanna chipped away throughout play. After taking a 12-11 lead mid-way through, Susquehanna held on until the match ended. The third set ended with a score of 25-17.
-Clark's top performers included Claudia Rivera (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and Sophia Torino (Los Angeles, CA). First-year Rivera impressed in her career opener for the Cougars, landing 11 kills. Torino's day included three kills, four digs, and 12 assists. Marimo Oka (Fukuoka, Japan) led Clark in digs with nine for the match.
