Sophomore Margarita Perez-Maza (Guaynabo, P.R.) notched 18 kills to lead Clark to a 3-1 non-league victory over UMass Dartmouth. The final game scores were 25-20, 22-25, 25-15 and 25-22 in a match played Tuesday evening at UMass Dartmouth.
Freshman Cameron Gill (Shrewsbury, Mass.) added 17 kills and three digs for the visiting Cougars (4-5), who also received seven kills from sophomore Mackenzie Hanna (Lamoine, Maine). Junior Sophia Torino (Los Angeles, Calif.) chipped in with 37 set assists, 12 digs and six kills for Clark. Torino now surpasses the 1,000 career assist mark, an awesome career milestone. The Cougars also had five kills and three digs from sophomore Paige Kacherian (Rowley, Mass.) along with 23 digs and eight set assists from sophomore Marimo Oka (Fukuoka, Japan). Also helping lead Clark to victory was sophomore Bailey Vogel (Salt Lake City, Utah) and freshman Claire Baker (Seattle, Wash.) who combined for 16 digs.
UMass Dartmouth's Nicole Silverman matched Perez-Maza's mark of 18 kills and also had nine digs and two service aces in the setback for the host Corsairs (0-3). The home team also received 25 set assists and five digs from freshman Courtney Carreiro (Dartmouth, Mass.). Senior Jillian Sykora (Waterford, Conn.) notched 24 digs for UMass Dartmouth as well.
UMass Dartmouth hosts Wellesley in a non-league match on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm, while Clark entertains Amherst in a non-league outing on Friday evening at 6:00 pm.
